The Hide Kapiti the vision of Mark and Debbie Duncan. Nestled on beautiful, family-owned native land, our vision for a luxury off-grid accommodation experience was born from a desire to create a lasting legacy for our three young children.
Driven by a deep respect for the environment, we were inspired to showcase the natural beauty of the Maungakotukutuku Valley in a way that enhances its peaceful charm without disrupting the landscape.
Perched at the highest point of our farm, The Hide offers quiet seclusion – an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and truly unwind. With expansive views stretching west to Kapiti Island and the South Island, and eastward over lush native bush, it’s a setting designed for reflection and renewal.
Our name, “The Hide,” is inspired by Mark’s military background. In the army, a “sniper’s nest” is a hidden, camouflaged position that provides protection and concealment – a safe space where one can remain unseen. Similarly, The Hide offers guests a private, 60-square-metre sanctuary to retreat, recharge, and find peace away from the demands of modern life.
